History and Background of CPSL
Carolina Practical Shooting League began in 1976 as part of the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC). In the first few years, several CPSL shooters competed in regional and national matches. A time came when the affiliation was no longer beneficial and the relationship ended.

CPSL continued on, now free to add rifles and shotguns to the matches and make other changes for the enjoyment of the shooters. It is believed that CPSL is the oldest continually operating action shooting group in the eastern USA.

There are typically four handgun stages although we do use rifles and/or shotguns in some matches. The monthly newsletter that is sent by e-mail and posted below tells shooters what to expect.

We welcome shooters of all experience levels. We only require that you be able to handle your firearm SAFELY.

We shoot every 3rd Sunday of the month.  Sign up  starts at 10:00AM and closes at 10:45AM.  We start  shooting around 10:30AM.

CPSL Newsletter, Dec. 19, 2010
In our final match of the year, we will be holding a Flying M match
with shotguns. For those not familiar with the Flying M, it is a
shooter vs. shooter match where you will compete against another
drawn at random. You will shoot against your opponent for 2 out of 3
wins. It is a double elimination match so everyone will get to face
at least two other shooters.

Bring plenty of shotgun shells. Everyone will fire at least 16 or 20
rounds. You may need as many as 100! All shotgun shells are to be
7 1/2 or smaller lead bird shot target loads. Larger shot and magnum
loads will not be allowed. If you don't have a pump or auto-loading
shotgun, bring 12 gauge shells and we will find a shotgun to share.

As a side match, Bill Lewin will be running a pocket pistol stage.
For $1, you can shoot the stage for time. Shoot as many times as you
wish for $1 each try. The three fastest shooters get a percentage of
the money collected.

Notice this is a pocket pistol match. This means J-Frame size
revolvers and small, slim semi-autos such as Kel-tecs, Mustangs, and
Kahrs. Double stack 9mms and .45 cal. pistols are not likely to make
the cut. Bill has final say on what constitutes a pocket pistol. If
you want to shoot with a bigger gun, fine, but you won't be eligible
for the prizes.

The current forecast is for partly cloudy and a high of 48. Dress
warm and in layers. See you at the Gun Club next Sunday.
